There’s just so much to tell you all about, I can’t fit it into one posting per day! The photo above - and the interesting and engaging link that it takes you to if you click it - is of the renowned Martha Ramirez-Oropeza, Nahuatl specialist, illustrator of The Toltec I Ching and lecturer at UCLA. It is our pleasure to announce - and entreat you to make reservations for - her exclusive appearance here at La Raza Galeria Posada.

Her lecture, which will take place Saturday, October 17th at 7pm is titled “The Ocotepec Mestizo Tradition: La Novenaria, Nine Days of Fire Works and Rosaries”

Ocotepec is one of the most traditional neighborhoods of Cuernavaca. La Novenaria (nine-night) is a traditional pre-Columbian procession to evoke special memories of deceased loved ones with colorful pageantry, indigenous blessings and lively music.

Presenter Martha Ramirez-Oropeza is a visual artist/educator and a resident of Ocotepec, Morelos, Mexico. She is currently an Artist-in-Resident at SPARC (Social and Public Art Resource Center) in Venice, CA. Oropeza apprenticed under master muralist David A. Siquieros, Guillermo Monroy and most recently, Judy Baca; was with the Mascarones Theatre Group in Mexico and is co-founder of the Nahuatl University in Cuernavaca, Mexico. She conducts Nahuatl Culture seminars in Mexico and lectures at the University of California, Los Angeles.
