world renowned, award winning…

(l-r): Jose Montoya (Director Emeritus), Marie Acosta (Executive Director) & Juanishi Orosco celebrate our Sacramento Arts and Business Council Arts Management Excellence Award win.

It is with a slight twinge of jealousy that we’re sending our beloved Executive Director Marie Acosta on her much deserved vacation this Sunday. For the two weeks upcoming, she’ll be somewhere at once out of reach of cell phones, emails & faxes and equally within reach of a beach, a good book & a strong margarita. But don’t fret your pretty little heads, even though she’s taking a break, we’re not!

In fact, we’ve got so much October programming that it’s nearly impossible to list it all!

but don’t you worry, i’m going to…

Opening the 7th of October is the Altar de la Familia Bermudez/The Bermudez Family Altar:

“Every November, the Monarch butterflies end their long migration in Mexico and carry with them the spirits of the dead. Altar de las Mariposas commemorates and welcomes the beloved souls of the Bermudez & Preston family home. Monarchs hover over the altar full of handmade candy skulls, calaveras, dazzling papier mâché masks, and marigolds in a celebration for the homecoming of Dia de Los Muertos.”

- The Bermudez Family

This touching tribute will be on display throughout the month of October.

Opening the 15th of October (which is right around the corner, truly!) is Nichos de la Ventana/Nichos in the Window, our staff, board and community created collection of cigar box nichos that will also be on display through the month of October and into November. We’ve still got two cigar boxes left, if you’d like to participate and if you’ve got a cigar box, time to get working, huh?

On top of all of that, we’ve got lions and tigers and bears, oh my! …well, more like film screenings, lectures, poetry readings and workshops, but still!
