“Arte Fresca/Fresh Art” is a bold multiethnic exhibition that features San Francisco’s Yolanda Lopez and Jesse Aguirre; local artists Jack Alvarez, Raphael Delgado, Too Big Sparrow, and Royal Chicano Air Force veterans Esteban Villa, Rudy Cuellar and Juan M. Carillo; plus the work of Carlos Guzman, a Mexican artist who does woodcut prints. - Victoria Dalkey, Sacramento Bee Art Critic

Bold and rhythmic, the brand new multi-ethnic, multi-artist exhibition set to open at Sacramento’s award-winning La Raza Galería features known iconic artists such as San Francisco’s Yolanda Lopez and Jesse Aguirre, plus area artists

Jack Alvarez, Raphael Delgado and Too Big Sparrow. The exhibition and sale opens Saturday, December 5 and benefit proceeds will assist in funding ambitious 2010 programming at the gallery and cultural center. La Raza Galería Posada is located at 1022-1024 22nd St. between J & K Sts. in bustling midtown Sacramento.

Yolanda Lopez is world-renowned for her powerful “Virgin of Guadalupe” triptych explorations of her grandmother, her mother and herself as modern women role models. Jesse Aguirre’s stark red, black and white “Facing Faces” oils work complement

Greg LaTraille’s jazz and classical “Rhythm Ink” series. This holiday sale also lends a sneak preview of several pieces from Raphael Delgado’s full solo exhibition, “What Is This Thing Called Love?”  that will open at La Raza Galeria beginning Second Saturday, January 9.

Special homage to some of the founders of La Raza Galería Posada come in the form of original pieces by Royal Chicano Air Force (RCAF) artists– Jack Alvarez’s dreamlike, curvilinear motifs, large vibrant color prints of photographer Rudy Cuellar and heritage “nichos” from Esteban Villa and
Juan M. Carillo.

In a delightful example of La Raza’s community outreach –and how art reached back—the work of an unknown artist who walked into the November Second Saturday storefront last month will also be featured. According to Executive Director Marie Acosta,
“We are also including wonderful woodcut prints by a Mexican artist, Carlos Guzman, who joined us at our November Second Saturday. His work was so instantly popular that we have invited him back to demonstrate his wood cut/lithograph process to the public during the afternoon on Saturday December 12.”

Original oils, giclee prints, pen and inks, color silkscreens, and digital and woodcut prints will be priced to sell in both rooms of the midtown gallery. Special holiday shopping hours are set at 11 am-7 pm, Tuesday-Saturday, thru Dec. 23.
