A week from tomorrow is Second Saturday, and we’ve got a show-stopping surprise scheduled with our current exhibiting artist Raphael Delgado. I can’t tell you much about it thus far, but I do know this: the GRAND UNVEILING, as it were, will be at 7:30pm on the 13th of February.

Raphael’s show is called “What Is This Thing Called Love?” and we at LRGP have all been inspired to dig a little deeper into the subject. With that in mind, also we’d like to invite you to our first annual Love Poetry & Music Night on Thursday, February 11th.

Starting at  7 PM,  area poets Hannah Jones, Michael Collett and Electropoetic Coffee will explore themes of the heart.

Hannah Jones is originally from Humboldt County, and studied abroad after high school. ”In Italy, I lost the connection one has with their primary language and coming home I had to relearn how to speak and connect with the world.” She joined the poetry collective A Reason to Listen, was a finalist for the Humboldt Co. Slam Team competition, and has recently moved to Sacramento to attend Sacramento State University and pursue poetry performance here. Her views of love and social justice permeate her work.

Michael Collett is a tri-lingual, bi-costal and multi-ethnic photographer and writer born in San Francisco. His work deals with issues of space and place and the constant pursuit of the devils and divinity in details. He is Education Program Manager and Photographer in Residence at La Raza Galeria Posada, and also teaches photography at the Sacramento Library and cinematography to elementary school students in West Sacramento.

Electropoetic Coffee is the new project of poet NSAA the Black Root and jazz/improvisational guitarist Ross Hammond.

Lawrence Dinkins [a.k.a. NSAA, pronounced en-sah-ah] goes beyond the African American experience to address all issues related to social justice, but also writes of simpler issues and compelling character from his personal life. Improvisational/jazz guitarist Ross Hammond is well known to Sacramento music audiences. He is the founder of the popular IN THE FLOW Festival and the new music series, “Nebraska Mondays” at Luna’s.

A $3 donation is requested, and yes, there will be open mic time.

Hope to see you all soon!
