Sonya Fe on Sacramento&Co!

Lookin’ good, Sonya!

For more about what’s been going on over here…

Hope you all had a good April Fools Day, and didn’t get suckered into anything too diabolical. Also hope you made it to our artist talk last Wednesday, which served as a wonderful culmination to Cesar Chavez day, which we  spent showing the spectacular documentary “Fighting For Our Lives” here at the Galería.

This also serves as an opportune moment to remind everyone that we have a very special Silent Auction going on now through the 13th of the month, which features signed, framed prints from Sonya Fe - I Hope I Don’t Grow Up To Be Like You, Meoww, The Cat Ate My Homework, My Chicken is Gooder Than A Little Red Wagon and Don’t Turn Your Back - as well as a signed giclee from Simona Hernandez - The Survival of Maria. All proceeds from the auction go to benefit LRGP programming, so come on down and throw your hat into the ring!

In other good news, we just got a grant from the Sacramento Region Community Foundation for $12,500 to support our inaugural Day of the Dead/Dia de los Muertos commemoration! Programming begins in August, with workshops and classes in sugar skull, paper marigold and altares making. There will be a 6-week exhibition at the Galería whose highlight will be the construction and presentation of a three-day community cemetery in the StateNet parking lot behind our Midtown location, Oct 31st - Nov 2nd. All this programming wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the SRCF, to whom we owe an immeasurable thanks. Watch this space for more information as we draw closer to the date.

Oh, and don’t forget! Our May 22nd all-day, family-friendly concert and outdoor fair is coming soon! Do you have your tickets yet? You don’t want to miss out on MALO, Rowdy Kate and more, especially at the recession-busting price of $10! It’s going to be all day, at Cesar Chavez Park in Downtown Sacramento and you can buy your tickets online, at R5 Records on Broadway or HERE at La Raza Galería Posada.

We know everyone’s got plans for Easter (or however you commemorate the Spring Equinox), but don’t miss us on Second Saturday next week, when both Sonya Fe and Simona Hernandez will be here at the Galería for the Closing Reception for All About Women. The show has had a wonderful run, and we’ll be sad to see it go, so make sure you get here for one last look at all this spectacular work!
