Hola, de nuevo!
I’m probably going to burn my fingers off, I’m typing so many posts, but there’s not nearly as many posts as we have events! (Well, there’s two, and there’s two events this week, so maybe that’s wrong) At any rate, had to hop back on and tell everyone about Thursday and Friday this week:
On Thursday, Dr. Joyce Bishop, curator of Sacred & Shared: The Larry Hoover Collection of Ritual Mexican Masks will be presenting the film La Ofrenda: The Days of the Dead here at 7pm. La Ofrenda is a critically acclaimed 1988 documentary that evocatively explores the Mexican traditions surrounding the celebration. The film will be followed by a lecture from Dr. Bishop as well as a Q&A.
And then, on Friday evening at 7pm, Los Escritores del Nuevo Sol, our writers-group-in-residence will be holding their Dia de los Muertos readings. Poets and prose artists from across Sacramento will be reading their works inspired by the Day of the Dead, and if you get here early enough and I don’t chicken out, you’ll catch me reading my poem for Jose Guadalupe Medina, father of student and dear friend of La Galería Jose Medina, who passed away this year. (Sadly, the Escritores del Nuevo Sol have just informed us that they have had to cancel this Friday’s poetry reading. For any of you who were interested in reading works on Friday, please come to Angelica Salceda - Artista del Capitolio on Wednesday November 4th. After her program, we will have 30 minutes of open mic.)
Don’t forget to check out our Programs & Events page for more upcoming, well, programs and events!
Ciao!
